Below, we’ve highlighted the ingredients in our signature Opal silicone lubricant as well as our travel size Opalette lubricant, explaining their purpose and why they’re integral to the luxurious feel of our product.

DIMETHICONE

Dimethicone is a high-grade silicone used in personal care products for its ability to create a silky-smooth barrier on the skin. Because of its molecular structure, it cannot be absorbed into the body, it sits on the surface of the skin rather than penetrating it, forming a protective layer rather than entering the bloodstream. Known for its long-lasting properties, dimethicone provides a non-greasy, velvety texture that reduces friction, ensuring maximum comfort during intimate moments. It's also hypoallergenic and non-irritating, making it suitable for sensitive skin. In addition to enhancing pleasure, dimethicone locks in moisture, providing a protective layer that keeps your skin soft and hydrated.

DIMETHICONOL

Dimethiconol is another silicone-based compound that works synergistically with dimethicone to boost its benefits. It acts as a conditioning agent, giving the lubricant a thicker, more luxurious consistency while maintaining a lightweight feel. Like dimethicone, its molecular structure means it isn't absorbed into the body, it remains on the surface of the skin, forming a breathable film rather than penetrating it. Dimethiconol is also known for its smooth glide and long-lasting performance, enhancing the durability of the product without the need for reapplication. Together with dimethicone, it ensures that every touch feels indulgent and friction-free.

WHY DIMETHICONE & DIMETHICONOL?

Dimethicone and dimethiconol cannot be absorbed into your body or bloodstream, their molecules are too large to pass through the skin barrier or mucous membrane cells. These large, inert silicone-based molecules remain on the surface of the skin, forming a protective barrier that enhances lubrication without penetrating the cells. This makes them effective at reducing friction and supporting long-lasting comfort, particularly in sensitive areas. Their hypoallergenic and non-irritating nature makes them suitable for prolonged use, providing a smooth, reliable experience with no internal absorption.

Unlike water-based formulas, dimethicone and dimethiconol contain no water, so they don't offer the moist environment bacteria and yeast need to thrive. This can make them a gentler choice for those who experience recurring irritation. Because they're silicone-based rather than water-based, they also don't contain glycerin or propylene glycol, ingredients found in some water-based lubricants that can affect the vagina's natural pH balance. Dimethicone and dimethiconol don't interfere with pH levels, supporting the body's natural balance.

Water-based alternatives often rely on preservatives, thickeners, and other additives to stay stable. Opal, by contrast, contains only two ingredients, reducing the potential for irritation and keeping the formula as simple, and as gentle, as possible.
